In Rome, do as romans

My good friend Phil from Geelong told me once when he was in Barcelona: "In Rome, do as romans." It's an old saying that many travelers adopt as a motto. If you travel to some particular place of the world and insist in living by your book, eating what you usually eat back home, drink what you usually drink and, in general, act just like if you were home, you'll miss some of the most interesting inputs these new place can offer you.
So, I followed Phil's advice in Oz, and drank one of his most famous local beers: the XXXX.
And you know what?... I liked it!

  2. Not only beer, though! To me, "do as romans" means everything that's possible to "imitate" while there. From standing at the left side on the escalators to eating what they usually eat
It's not always feasable, but it's the closest thing to traveling that I know.
